All About Brighter Days’ Non-Toxic, Wooden-Wicked Candles
Brighter Days Co. candles are handmade and poured right in New Jersey. Its candles are made with 100% natural soy wax and fragrances that are free of harmful chemicals, phthalates, and pollutants. The small, rectangular piece of wood that can be found in the middle of Brighter Days candles is the wick and it is made up of 100% organic and untreated native cherry wood. The cherry wood wick provides a unique horizontal flame that creates a soft crackling sound when burning, emitting the cozy ambiance of a fireplace or campfire. The wood wick helps the candle to burn slower which adds more burn time to the aromatherapy experience of the candle.
For some candle education and background knowledge, most candles, such as ones found in popular retail chain stores like Bath + Body Works and Yankee Candle, are made with paraffin wax, which is derived from petroleum. Soy wax is derived from soybeans, which is a vegetable. Soybeans are natural and non-toxic. Soy candles burn cleaner with virtually no soot or smoke. Those who suffer from allergies, or headaches, or who have a sensitivity to fragrance oils will be able to tolerate soy candles more easily because they burn slowly and the scent is released gradually. If burned properly, Brighter Days candles last for 90+ burns.
All of Brighter Days’ 100% soy wax, crackling wooden wick, and non-toxic candles are available for purchase at their workshop in Marlboro as well as online.
DIY Candle-Making Workshops
Brighter Days Co. has candle-making workshops at its Marlboro, New Jersey studio. A candle expert from the Brighter Days team will guide groups, giving detailed instructions and tips on how to make the perfect soy wax candle. A ticket to a candle-making workshop — which costs $45 — includes two 8-oz hand-poured, scented wooden wick soy candles and the opportunity to pick and create a candle name, scent, and label. Aprons will also be provided. Candlemakers have the option of drawing their labels or printing out an image or graphic to put on their candles. BYOB is welcome and encouraged at the workshop sessions. The workshops run about an hour and a half, providing plenty of time for socializing and eating in between candle creations. Candle-making workshops are geared towards adults and individuals aged 12 and up. Children under the age of five are not permitted in the candle workshop at any time. Candle-making workshop dates and times can be found on Brighter Days’ website.
